PART TWO - XI'AN Chapter 5 - Zuichangan Restaurant Review 56 Shuyuanmen St, Beilin District

I had some really amazing street food in #Xian #China and I found their restaurant scene to be just as good. One of the best dinners I had during my time there was at a place called Zuichangan.

My friend and I ordered 3 dishes and rice and the meal came to 198 yuan for the both of us. That is about AUS $20 each which was great value. Here are those dishes:

The prawn dish was reminiscent of the honey king prawns that was popular in every western chinese restaurant in the 80's though this was done even better.

With a tastier more modern spin on the classic, it had a very flavoursome honey mustard sauce coating lightly deep fried prawns and garnished with crispy mint leaves.

The unidentified green vegetable dish which was some sort of local vegetable was a pure delight. It was light, crunchy and moreish and stir fried with bits of pork lard, garlic and chilli in a soy pepper sauce. The pine nuts were also an unexpected buttery addition.

Our last dish, a whole crispy skinned chicken was brought to the table butterflied and served in a specially shaped vessel with a cumin spice mix.

It had everything you would want in a chicken. Crispy skin and succulent moist flesh.

The food at Zuichangan is delicious and its definitely worth a meal there if you are travelling to Xi'an.
