PART THREE - SHANGHAI - Chapter 9 - Xian De Lai review 46 South Yunnan Rd, Huangpu district

Chop rice cake or Pai Gu Nian Gao is a Shanghai staple that is well known amongst the locals here. One of the most famous places to eat this is at a casual little eatery which has been feeding diners for almost 100 years called Xian De Lai #ShanghaiRestaurants

Go for the set meal deal and your deep fried pork chop will be accompanied by chewy rice cakes smothered in their secret fruity jammy flavoured sauce. You will also get a bowl of thin wheat noodles tossed plainly in soy sauce and shallot oil and a clear soup with a pork meatball wrapped in tofu skin.

It wasn't until I arrived in #Shanghai #China that I heard of this dish and realised just how popular it was amongst the Shanghainese. As such it is a common lunch choice here.
