WONDERBAO REVIEW Shop 4 / 19-37 A'Beckett Street Melbourne

Tucked away in one of Melbourne's city laneways #MelbourneCity is Wonderbao.

Here the humble bao reigns supreme.

This hole in the wall offers bao with various fillings including traditional char siu bbq pork, pork belly, chicken, tofu and vegetable options. The bao here is seriously good.

If you're fortunate enough to be one of the five lucky customers to secure a seat by the window then you can take in some people watching as you eat, witnessing the pilgrimage of lunchtime bao followers descending on this little shop in waves.

Soft, light fluffy buns of various shapes and sizes with your choice of filling are the order of the day.

Da Pork Bao, a mountain of a bao with pork mince, quail egg, lap cheong and shiitake mushroom is undeniably satisfying.

The braised and roast pork belly baos were succulent and juicy and the meat just melts in your mouth. These were my favourite.

Taro bun, a smaller bun with purple taro paste is good if you're looking for a sweeter option.

And don't forget to try their interesting burger bao hybrids like the crumbed portobello mushroom with lettuce, onions, melted cheese and mayo on a lightly toasted sesame seed bao.

If you feel like mixing up your order, they also have popcorn chicken, taro chips and sweet potato fries you can add as well. Washed down with homemade soy milk and you have an affordable and filling lunch or snack to go. And the best part is, if leaving the office is just too hard then they also deliver via Uber Eats. Now that's convenience!

For those wanting their bao fix, this quintessential Melbourne eatery #MelbourneTakeaway is definitely the place to visit.
