SPARROW'S PHILLY CHEESESTEAKS @ THE CATFISH REVIEW 30 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy

Updated: Jun 9, 2018

The Mascot @ The Catfish

The Philly Cheesesteak. An iconic american classic originating in Philadelphia but eaten throughout the US.

Since returning from my trip to the States, I have been searching for that elusive Philadelphia cheesesteak sandwich in my hometown of Melbourne. I think I have found it at Sparrow's Philly Cheesesteaks nestled inside The Catfish bar in #Fitzroy.

The menu here at Sparrow's is american inspired with the main hero being cheesesteaks with a choice of various fillings including everything from jalapenos, sweet peppers, mushrooms, bacon, tofu and even kimchi! There are also #vegan options with pulled jackfruit (on-trend at the moment) as a meat substitute and vegan cheese.

For those who enjoy a bit of deep fried action you'll find fried chicken, onion rings and of course fries to order.

I ended up ordering the regular steak which came with strips of grilled beef, melted american cheese and sauteed onions on a fresh hoagie roll. Sometimes the simple things in life are just the best and this is a prime example of tasty simplicity.

I also couldn't resist ordering a basket of golden french fries smothered in cheese sauce.

I struggled to get even halfway through my cheese fries and by the end of it I was ready to roll home with food coma from all the dairy I had just consumed.

Was it worth it though? Hell yeah! I would do it all again in a heartbeat!
