This #Brunswick cafe #MelbourneCafes is quickly becoming a local favourite. I have eaten here a number of times and every time the food here is very good. On this occasion I went for the sardines and eggplant caponata with buttered toast. As expected the meal was really tasty.
The sardines were lightly dusted with flour and then pan fried and were well seasoned. The eggplant caponata was reminiscent of a french ratatouille and worked well as a flavour packed spread on the toast.
What I really like about Small Axe is what they are offering is not the usual cafe fare. Yes you can still have eggs on toast if you desire but there is also a good variety of italian inspired dishes. They are now also open for dinner and offer an alternative menu featuring more pasta based dishes and mains.
The food here is awesome. It's definitely more restaurant quality and refined than what you get in your usual cafe. Check this one out for sure!
