MIZUNO REVIEW 1-4-15 Dotonbori, Chuo-Ku, Osaka-Shi, Osaka, Japan

Updated: Jun 9, 2018

Located in the Dotonbori district of Osaka, #MichelinStar rated restaurant Mizuno specializes in serving up a delicious selection of okonomiyaki. For those not familiar, okonomiyaki are japanese savoury pancakes to which cabbage and various ingredients including meat, seafood, noodles etc are added along with the batter and topped with okonomiyaki sauce and other japanese condiments.

Across #Japan there are many varieties of okonomiyaki including the Hiroshima and Tokyo versions but the birth place for it is said to be in Osaka. So if you're visiting this area then you really have to stop by and try this Osakan treat for yourself. Trust me, you won't regret it!

Being featured in the Michelin guide, as expected there was a queue forming as I arrived. However as I got there early enough I was seated within 20 minutes.

Sitting at the counter I was able to watch the chefs prepare and cook my meal on the teppan hot plate right in front of me.

On the menu there was a good choice of okonomiyaki to choose from. I chose to try two different ones. One pancake had seafood and noodles in it topped with seaweed powder whilst the other had slices of pork belly and big plump sea scallops. It was finished off with kewpie and okonomiyaki sauce. In one word: delicious!

I have to say that I have never eaten okonomiyaki that has tasted this good before and it is something that I will remember for a very long time.

I loved Mizuno and I definitely recommend coming here if you visit Osaka, not just because the okonomiyaki was fantastic but also because eating here is truly a unique and enjoyable experience. Mizuno gets a big thumbs up from me!
